VoIP Market To Grow By 48% In 2004

Voice-over-internet telephony (VoIP) equipment is expected to grow by 48% to $4.9 billion by the end of 2004, according to a new report from eMarketer.

The VoIP: Spending and Trends report shows that by the end of 2007, this market is expected to grow rapidly and total equipment spend to reach $15.1 billion.

The report says: “One thing is certain, driven by enterprises trumpeting the savings achieved through early adoption of VoIP technology, the market for internet telephony equipment and services will grow significantly over the next several years.”

Research carried out by Infonetics, shows that VoIP equipment grew by 21% in 2003 and says that it expects this to increase by a further 42% between 2003 and 2007, with sales totaling $5 billion.

IP business telephony equipment grew to 56% of the total business telephony market in 2003, up from just 1.4% in 1999 and by 2007, is expected to account for 97% of this market.
