Worldwide Mobile Revenues Set To Soar

The global wireless user base will increase by 49% over the next four years and reach 1.72 billion by 2007, according to a new report from The Yankee Group.

The company’s latest Global Wireless/Mobile Forecast shows that 18.6% of the world’s population now have mobile phones. Numbers are set to increase by almost a half between now and 2007 and there will be an incremental increase in income.

Worldwide cellular subscriber revenue is expected to grow from $387 billion in 2002 to $584 billion in 2007, making wireless services similiar in value to crude oil production.

The mobile phone industry enjoyed a record first quarter with handset sales up by 18% year on year, according to Gartner Dataquest (see Record First Quarter For Mobile Providers).
