Global newspaper circulation is set to rise but levels of growth will vary considerably among continents, according to a new study by the World Association Of Newspapers (WAN).
The boom region is expected to be Asia where circulation is predicted to increase by 13% between 2002 and 2006. Latin America will experience 4.5% growth in the same period. Sales in Europe and North America will continue to decline but at a slower rate than before.
Newspaper circulation in the European Union is forecasted to fall around 4% in the next four years, compared to 4.5% between 1997 and 2001. Meanwhile, circulation in North America will slip by 1% from 2002 and 2006 after a drop of 1.5% from 1997 to 2001.
