WPP Unveils Maxus Global As Third Media Network

Sir Martin Sorrell’s global advertising heavyweight WPP has announced the launch of its third-string media network, Maxus Global, in the Asia-Pacific region.

The new company is intended to resolve several of WPP’s current conflict assignments and will be made up of second-tier agencies currently under the control of MindShare and Mediaedge:cia.

It is understood that the new company will be a totally independent operation, reporting to the recently established media buying giant Group M and operating principally in the Asia-Pacific region.

The new network’s name and branding are understood to have been created by fellow WPP agency, The Partners. A website is also live at www.maxusglobal.com claiming to provide a ‘client-centred approach’ delivering the ‘best of all worlds’.

Last week WPP announced an increase in revenues for quarter one 2004 of nearly 6%. The rise puts the company’s revenues at £960 million thanks to the third consecutive quarter increase, including a 12% rise to UK revenue (see WPP Upbeat As Revenues Continue To Rise).

The advertising giant has also hinted at an upturn in the advertising market in general, with WPP chief executive Martin Sorrell stating: “The UK is over the worst. There’s certain countries in Continental Europe, such as Germany, still suffering. The company is very much on track; 3-4% growth is expected for 2004.”
