Xfm Launches New Podcast

Xfm Logo GCap’s ‘indie’ station, Xfm, is to launch a music podcast featuring 30-second clips of 10 new songs before they are available to buy online.

Users will be able to download the clips as part of the New Music Rising podcast every Saturday morning.

The service follows a deal struck last year between commercial radio and the PPL, which collects royalties on behalf of artists and record labels, allowing stations to include up to 30 seconds of music tracks in their podcasts.

Xfm’s podcast will be fronted by the presenters of its Music: Response show from its four stations around the country, beginning with Colin Francies from the south Wales service.

The first podcast, which will also include an entire song from a “hot new act”, will feature the likes of Foo Fighters, Hard-Fi and the Futureheads.

“As the UK’s best trusted guide for new music we thought it was about time that we lit [up] your MP3 player with a weekly heads up on what’s new and exciting, and who better to take our listeners on this aural sensation than our Music: Response team,” said the Xfm head of music, Mike Walsh.

The podcast launches this Saturday.
