Xfm South Wales Gets November Launch Date

Xfm South Wales Gets November Launch Date

Digital Radio Xfm South Wales is to go live on 106.8 – 107.3 on Thursday November 29 at 12pm, broadcasting from the same site as its sister station, GCap’s Red Dragon in Cardiff.

In a statement, Xfm said that it will be looking to showcase South Wales’ musical and artistic talent to the UK whilst also bringing the biggest names and best acts across the Severn for sessions and shows.

Nick Davidson, Xfm’s managing director, said: “Now we have the launch date in place we are working full steam behind the scenes to give the listeners of South Wales a fantastic launch. This will be followed up within days by one of the biggest music events the area has ever seen – Winter Wonderland. Announcements on our exciting DJ line-up that will get our listeners raring to tune in are just around the corner.”

Dominic Barker, Xfm’s regional sales director, added: “This is a really exciting time for the Xfm network and now that we’ve got a launch date for the new station we are working with both our programming team and our clients to develop a range of innovative sponsorship and promotional opportunities that will create real synergy between the Xfm South Wales brand and our clients objectives, both nationally and locally.”

Xfm, which has been celebrating its tenth birthday recently (see Xfm Unveils 10th Birthday Documentary Season), won the South Wales regional licence in May. Later that month it reveal a dramatic plan to rid the station of daytime DJs, as part of a major revamp of the brand (see Xfm Could Shed Daytime DJs In Revamp).

The latest RAJAR figures, for January to June 2007, show that total Xfm (UK) had a weekly reach of around 1.2 million listeners, up just over 10.4% year on year (see Radio 2 Records Rise In Weekly Reach).
