The Midland News Association (MNA) is showing signs of being hit by the recession with over 100 jobs being axed at the Wolverhampton Express and Star, the group’s successful daily title. Profits for MNA have fallen over the past few years, seeing a decrease of over £5m since 1989.

CIA has acquired Blufin, parent of Italy’s largest media independent. The deal involves a share swap in which Blufin shareholders receive a 10% stake in CIA.The move marks the first step in CIA’s plans to acquire equity interests in European media operations.
